[1] I feel quite sorry for my sister when I wander on my farm, which I have developed into the UK’s largest grower of spelt, a crop similar to wheat. When we bought it in 2003, we hadn’t a clue what to do with it. It was Rosemary’s suggestion that we should grow spelt here.

[2] Sadly, the reason Rosemary knew about this ancient plant is that she had been diagnosed with bowel cancer (肠癌). She was researching nutrient-rich and easily digestible (易消化的) diets to improve her life. Rosemary had discovered that spelt is one of the easiest grains to digest, apart from being a great source of fiber, iron, and zinc. Now, in memory of my sister, I’ve joined forces with Bowel Cancer UK to promote its health benefits. As a result, I created a new website, www.greatbritishspeltrecipes.com.

[3] Sadly, Rosemary died in June just before we harvested our first crop. As we mourned the loss of my sister, we spent the six months after that harvest experimenting with spelt flour and baking bread with it. Certainly, I found it a comfort to nurture a crop that had been my sister’s idea and learn how to use it to create flour and other products for people. I am thrilled by the number of people who approach us for spelt. They say that switching to spelt has transformed their wellbeing for the better.

[4] Throughout my career, I want to help the charity raise awareness of          to reduce our risk of cancer through simple changes to diet and lifestyle. If not for Rosemary’s illness and foresight, we’d never have thought to grow spelt or launched a campaign to raise awareness of how diet can affect health. We can only hope that through this latest campaign, her spirit lives on.
