Dear class,
I am very honored to have the chance to introduce to all of you a traditional Chinese festival—Dragon Boat Festival.
The 5th day of the 5th lunar month is a traditional Chinese festival dedicated to the great poet Qu Yuan for his devotion to his native state in ancient China. It is a celebration to which every family has attached great importance. People in many ways pay their respects to Qu Yuan such as eating zongzi, racing dragon boats and so on. The festival was long marked as a cultural holiday in China. Now it is also celebrated as “Poets’ Day” in honor of Qu Yuan, who is known as China’s first poet. Most excitingly, we can enjoy a three-day holiday together with weekends.
Maybe you’re curious to know something about zongzi. Just sit straight, I will show you how to make it and we will enjoy the zongzi we make together next class!
