Liu Wei: Armless pianist
A 23-year-old pianist, Liu Wei, played the piano with his feet in Viena's Golden Saal
Concert hall(维也纳金色大厅)in early 2011. He played the famous Chinese piece Butterfly
Lover, a piece of music about the story of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, not with hands, but
with feet.
Liu lost both his arms when he was ten after a high voltage electrical (高压电)accident.
He stayed in the hospital for 3 months. Two years after the accident, he learned to swim. Then
he won two gold medals in the National Paralyzed(残疾人)Swimming Championship at the
Age of 14. But because of some disease, he had to give up swimming. Then he started learning to play the piano when he was 19. He could not find a teacher to teach him to paly with his feet, so he began teaching himself. He kept practicing the piano 7 hours every day. In 2010, Liu Wei became the winner of China's Got Talent(达人秀). Later in 2011, Liu Wei was named as one of the "10 people who moved(感动)China" by CCTV.
"Music is like water and air to me," Liu said. "I can't live without music and I know I
must chase my dream even at the lowest point of my life."
