In 1949 my father came back from the war(战争)，like many other soldiers．
Soon after he came back，my grandmother became very ill．The doctors said that she needed a blood transfusion(输血)at once，or she would not live through(活过)the night．The problem was that Grandmother’s blood type(血型)was AB-，a very strange type．Even today, (1)it was hard to get some because there were no blood banks or flights to transport(运输)blood．None of the family members were that type．My grandmother was dying．
