I could clearly remember my first day in the 5th grade. I was a new student then, having transferred(转学) to a local school for boys. Life was really difficult for my parents having transferred me to a school with a higher schooling fee. As much as we could, all unnecessary expenses (费用) were dispensed with(免除).
At school, we were required to wear a white shirt with the school’s sign on its upper left pocket that could be bought in the school shops. And at the top of this pocket a name tag(标签) should be worn to best prove each student. This tag was sold at the shops too. To cut added expenses, Mom decided to make the tag herself.
“This would do,” she said, pushing the tag through the button at the top of the pocket. “OK Mom”. I was not ready to wear it. I thought it was different and irregular. At school, some boys made fun of me because of the tag. “Your helper sure did an ugly job”. And another remarked “How strange it is! At least it caught our attention”. I knew it. At first, I tried to cover it and ignored it. But at last I knew that it didn’t matter if it was different from others who wore the machine-made tags.
I realized it should not stop me from doing my best in spite of our differences in culture of economic situation (经济状况). What is true is that Mom spent much time making it possible to give the best to me. I should be proud of it. And I did; I wore this Mom-made tag for the rest of the school year.
